📹 Throwback series: Catherine Cookson
Why this art? Let's dive into my illustration of this literature icon
👋 Dear creative. How are you doing today?
Catherine Cookson: Iconic storyteller
I had the idea for this series weeks ago—a series that explores illustrations I have created, shedding light on their meaning for me and their possible resonance. I believe every project has a purpose and is worth existing. Through this lens, we always give acknowledgement to the super genie within us. Every project, illustration, design and business venture I have pursued has taught me a lot about creativity, and today I regard them as dear teachers. For this first ‘‘Throwback’’, let's dive into the work of Catherine Cookson, one of my favourite authors and storytellers.
In this video, I share a deep dive into her illustration, explaining the reasons behind the creation. Additionally, I discuss the process and elements in the piece.
🔦A little behind the scenes… plus my investigation on Catherine Cookson.
🔦 This woman shines a light on crafting characters
As you may have guessed, I deep-dived into her universe to create this illustration. It was both an investigation and an encounter with her as a storyteller, a creative, writer, and a fun personality. It was part of the 11 Storytellers series.
Some goodies I mentioned in the video:
📚 My Top 3 Books: Tilly Trotter • The Girl • The Round Tower
📹 My Top 4 Movies: Tilly Trotter • The Fifteen Streets • Rag Nymph • Colour Blind
Storytelling technique: It is addictive… The Atmosphere!
Why Her as a Storyteller? in 3 words

🔦 Her building was rooted in her story
We often overlook the behind-the-scenes when we discover an artist, writer or creative. The story behind their work often sheds light on the contrasting or daring character of a Creative. Catherine had a challenging path, but she found healing in writing and purpose in illuminating truth! Her legacy is beyond words and the sceneries, she intentionally researched.
Every character and its context required her immersion. I admire that in her: involvement and dedication.

Quiz: so what about you?
Thank you for reading this first ‘‘Throwback series’’. It was really nice to look back at that illustration and investigation. Every time I see it, it brings me joy. There are many lessons to be learned from our past projects!
I hope you enjoyed it as well. If you enjoy this letter → 💖 put a heart on it and share! It helps more people discover this space.
Yours creatively,
Keva.
