Possibly best 90's album: OK Computer but it killed rock music! Favourite 90's discovery: music from the 1950s: Chet Baker. And don't forget technopunk and EDM 😁
Neat! The 90s were such an interesting time. As you rightly point out, cultural globalism really started ramping up in a big way, so we got lots of mashups of different societies, outlooks, ethnicities, etc. We began to see human beings on the screen who looked like people around us, not so homogeneous.
At the same time, the internet became a force in its own right, connecting people in ways they were never before connected. The early 90s and the late 90s were really different times for me - high school in the early part, and the internet, playing shows with punk bands, moving to another city punctuated the late 90s for me. Also: alcohol and parties.
Sure thing- here are a few bands I really enjoyed, progressing from the early to late 90s:
1. Grunge bands took center stage pretty early on - Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Primus (not really grunge but lumped in). I think this opened the door for punk for me, getting my musical palate ready
2. Old-school punk rock bands I really enjoyed were Subhumans (UK), Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, and maybe 100 others. I was immersed.
3. Crust punk came onto the scene later on for me as my tastes broadened, including Filth, Disrupt ,Neurosis, and Dystopia. Crust is often very metal-influenced.
I can also recommend some more accessible punk banks if folks are curious.
Let me know if any of the others appeal to you and I can always recommend others. It's also all right if none of them do! Especially the crust punk stuff is not for everyone.

Best 90s movie: Goodfellas.
You should publish that history here on substack!
I love that list, Shane! Chet Baker is a lineage to a feel of an era. I listened to him a few days ago. Thank you for sharing.
Why not... it's a brilliant idea. Why not share it here? One book at a time.
Ps: You remember our live talk a few years ago. I will share it here on Substack instead. I will email you the details.
Chet Baker was fabulous.
True! Chet Baker had a whole vibe and still does. Do you have any favourite song to share?
How about you?
I really like "I fall in love too easily"
"That old feeling" works like a charm, always.

Thank you for expanding Andrew! The internet years that is a reminder 🎯.
You have more exciting childhood memories in the 90s. I was literally a baby in those days.
Thank you for sharing. Which punk banks? Could you share 1 or 2 artists?

Thanks! I will give them a try. I only know Nirvana and Alice in chains (by name).
